The base has a long and proud history of supporting humanitarian airlift operations at home and around the world. Today, Travis AFB includes approximately 7,260 active USAF military personnel, 4,250 Air Force Reserve personnel and 3,770 civilians.
Travis tested 12 groundwater wells on-base and all were found to be above the Lifetime Health Advisory of 70 ppt.
PFOS?PFOA were found at concentrations of 40,000 ppt.
The Air Force reported, “Completed the base-wide Preliminary Assessment and received regulatory concurrence on the findings. Initiated a base-wide Site Inspection for PFOS and PFOA. Continue following the CERCLA process through investigation, cleanup, and long-term monitoring. Perform mitigation activities when impacts to human health are determined.”
