               Coronado
   Naval Amphibious Base

Picture

Naval Base Coronado (NBC) is a consolidated Navy installation encompassing eight military facilities stretching from San Clemente Island, located seventy miles west of San Diego, California, to the Mountain Warfare Training Camp Michael Monsoor and Camp Morena, located sixty miles east of San Diego.

Picture

See below for thousands of pages documenting contamination at Coronado dating back to 1991. Many of the most sensitive records are not available without filing a lengthy and costly Freedom of Information Act Request, (FOIA).

Coronado is identified as a DOD installation with known or suspected releases of PFOS/PFOA, according to a DOD Report to Congress on Aqueous Film-Forming Foam - Nov. 3, 2017.

No testing results were made public regarding the base, only that it is likely contaminated with the ”forever chemicals.”

Nas North Island & Nab Coronado Serves: 4,500 Data available: 2012—2017

Source: Purchased surface water Contaminants Detected 11 EXCEED
EWG HEALTH GUIDELINES

27 Total Contaminants

EWG's drinking water quality report shows results of tests conducted by the water utility and provided to the Environmental Working Group by the California State Water Resources Control Board, as well as information from the U.S. EPA Enforcement and Compliance History database (ECHO). For the latest quarter assessed by the U.S. EPA (January 2019 - March 2019), tap water provided by this water utility was in compliance with federal health-based drinking water standards.

Legal does not necessarily equal safe. Getting a passing grade from the federal government does not mean the water meets the latest health guidelines.
Legal limits for contaminants in tap water have not been updated in almost 20 years.
The best way to ensure clean tap water is to keep pollution out of source water in the first place.

The California Water Board did not test the water of the Nas North Island & Nab Coronado Water District for PFAS in 2019.
