Hunters Point was a United States Navy shipyard in San Francisco, located on 638 acres of waterfront at Hunters Point in the southeast corner of the city. 
​The base closed in 1994. Since then the site has been part of a Superfund cleanup effort to remediate  decades of lethal contamination.

​Hunters Point is identified as a DOD installation with known or suspected releases of PFOS/PFOA, according to a DOD Report to Congress on Aqueous Film-Forming Foam - Nov. 3, 2017.

​No testing results were made public regarding the base, only that it is likely contaminated with the ”forever chemicals.”

EWG's drinking water quality report shows results of tests conducted by the water utility and provided to the Environmental Working Group by the California State Water Resources Control Board, as well as information from the U.S. EPA Enforcement and Compliance History database (ECHO). For the latest quarter assessed by the U.S. EPA (January 2019 - March 2019), tap water provided by this water utility was in compliance with federal health-based drinking water standards.

Legal does not necessarily equal safe. Getting a passing grade from the federal government does not mean the water meets the latest health guidelines.
Legal limits for contaminants in tap water have not been updated in almost 20 years.
The best way to ensure clean tap water is to keep pollution out of source water in the first place.

"Some of the conditions I noted were dangerous. Building 217 was used to store radioactive waste commodities (subject to NRC license contro]s) prior to being transported off the shipyard. On or about March 17, 2010 after the field crews bad left for the day and I was doing my "end-of-day" RAD integrity field check, I discovered that RCA posted Building 217 had been left unsecured.
