                      Santa Rosa
      Naval Auxiliary Landing Field

Picture

Santa Rosa was first commissioned in 1943, as an outlying airfield of Naval Air Station Alameda. There were two 7,000-foot concrete runways.  Each runway had a parallel taxiway, and there was a concrete apron in the northwest quadrant of the runway crossing. Two other outlying airfields, Cotati Naval Outer Landing Field and Little River Naval Outer Landing Field, supported Santa Rosa flight operations training 21 squadrons of fighters, dive bombers, and torpedo planes during World War II. The Santa Rosa airfield was relinquished by the US Navy between 1946–48 and reactivated in 1951 for the Korean War. It was abandoned by the Navy between 1952-54.It was re-opened between 1966-67 as a civilian airport, Santa Rosa Air Center. Santa Rosa Air Center closed in 1991.

Active Sites
Sites where military cleanup actions are still ongoing. The risk level of a site refers to a relative risk assessment made by the DOD, which prioritizes the cleanup of sites that pose greatest threat to safety, human health, and the environment.

PRP HAZARDOUS, TOXIC AND RADIOACTIVE WASTE
Training and Maneuver Area
Cost

Contaminated: Groundwater Sediment Soil Surface Water
Sewage Effluent Settling Ponds
The site is under ongoing monitoring until Sep 2021

Most source areas removed. Some soil remaining from UST. gardening and digging in area

Soil Contaminants:

Arsenic 7.9 mg/kg
Toluene 25.0 mg/kg
Benzene 1200.0 mg/kg
Ethylbenzene 6840.0 mg/kg
Xylenes 21200.0 mg/kg

Groundwater Contaminants:

GW is located approx. 1 to 10 feet below ground surface and can easily be monitored for migration. Wetlands in area where GW table is high. This site is located in an area where development is expected in upcoming years. High groundwater table will be a factor during construction and, if contaminated, poses an identified risk to the workers.

Contaminants:

Xylenes 2.0 ug/L
Ethylbenzene 2.4 ug/L
Benzene 35.0 ug/L

Contaminants Detected 7 EXCEED  EWG HEALTH GUIDELINES

18 Total Contaminants

EWG's drinking water quality report shows results of tests conducted by the water utility and provided to the Environmental Working Group by the California State Water Resources Control Board, as well as information from the U.S. EPA Enforcement and Compliance History database (ECHO). For the latest quarter assessed by the U.S. EPA (January 2019 - March 2019), tap water provided by this water utility was in compliance with federal health-based drinking water standards.

Legal does not necessarily equal safe. Getting a passing grade from the federal government does not mean the water meets the latest health guidelines.
Legal limits for contaminants in tap water have not been updated in almost 20 years.
The best way to ensure clean tap water is to keep pollution out of source water in the first place.

The California Water Board did not test Santa Rosa's water for PFOS/PFOA in 2019.
