 Treasure Island Naval Air Station

Picture

Naval Station Treasure Island is a former United States Navy facility that operated on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay from 1942 to 1997.

Three wells were tested at the Navy’s old Treasure Island Naval Station and three were found to be poisonous.

PFOS/PFOA were found in the groundwater at 10,750 ppt, many times over the EPA’s Lifetime Health Advisory of 70 ppt.

Treasure Island, the former naval base, is being transformed into a $6 billion development of condos and shops. It was once considered hazardous enough to be a federal Superfund waste site but was never officially named one, newly disclosed documents show.

Treasure Island Serves: 2,400  Data available: 2012—2017
https://www.ewg.org/tapwater/system.php?pws=CA3810702
Source: Purchased surface water Contaminants Detected 2 EXCEED EWG HEALTH GUIDELINES

8 Total Contaminants

EWG's drinking water quality report shows results of tests conducted by the water utility and provided to the Environmental Working Group by the California State Water Resources Control Board, as well as information from the U.S. EPA Enforcement and Compliance History database (ECHO). For the latest quarter assessed by the U.S. EPA (January 2019 - March 2019), tap water provided by this water utility was in compliance with federal health-based drinking water standards.

Legal does not necessarily equal safe. Getting a passing grade from the federal government does not mean the water meets the latest health guidelines.
Legal limits for contaminants in tap water have not been updated in almost 20 years.
The best way to ensure clean tap water is to keep pollution out of source water in the first place.
