“Books like this are critical to understanding the methodology of militarism. The growing intervention by the armed forces in our educational system is not solely for the purpose of recruiting bodies to fight our wars--it is also about recruiting minds. With a strategic focus on children, programs like the Young Marines, Starbase and JROTC are all mechanisms for embedding the values of militarism in a broader segment of the population. The implications of allowing this to continue are frightening to consider, yet civilians are failing to grasp the dangerous nature of the problem. Hopefully, coverage of the issue in this book will lead to increased awareness of the issue and, most importantly, stimulate greater activism to confront it.” ~ Rick Jahnkow, Program Coordinator of the Project on Youth and Non-Military Opportunities (YANO)

A Vermont Landfill is Contaminating a Canadian Lake with PFAS
Casella Water Systems is contaminating Lake Memphremagog with runoff from the state’s only landfill. The Canadians north of the border aren’t happy.

I’ll examine this international controversy and the threat to public health caused by PFAS from a landfill’s leachate. I’ll look at drinking water contamination and how PFAS bio-accumulates in fish. Finally, I’ll interview Henry Coe, a Vermont environmentalist who understands the history of this tragedy and the dangers inherent in disposing PFAS into surface waters. https://patelder.weebly.com/lake-memphremagog.html
Creech Air Force Base has poisoned the region's environment
Pat Elder
February 27, 2021
Creech Air Force Base is the headquarters of the USAF's 432nd Air Wing of Predator and Reaper drones which illegally operate deadly, remotely piloted aircraft in various foreign countries. Creech is an extraordinarily secret place. Unlike Beale and Travis, Creech is not an EPA Superfund site, although it’s not due to a lack of contaminants.
The highest levels of PFOS and PFOA were reported at 21,066 ppt. in groundwater at Creech. See https://patelder.weebly.com/creech-afb-is-poisoned.html
Three mattresses, two box springs, two couches, and one chair
PFAS runoff from a Vermont landfill is poisoning a lake shared with Canada, and the Winooski River

By Pat Elder
February 20, 2021
In 2019, three mattresses, two box springs, two couches, and one chair were pulled out of the waste stream at the Coventry Landfill in Vermont and tested for per-and poly fluoroalkyl substances, (PFAS) chemicals. The testing was conducted on behalf of the owner of the landfill, New England Waste Services, (NEWSVT), a subsidiary of Casella Waste Systems, in accordance with a testing plan approved by the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, (DEC).
Samples from the mattresses and couches were collected and submitted to Alpha Analytical for analysis of PFAS concentrations. They found the items contained 1.2 million parts per trillion (ppt) of the toxins. See: https://patelder.weebly.com/poisoning-memphremagog-and-the-winooski.html

Environmental "protection" in Oklahoma
Yesterday I received an email from an environmental activist in Oklahoma who asked me to review a bill that has been introduced in the Oklahoma Legislature that purports to regulate PFAS in the state. I remembered there were astronomical PFAS levels at Tinker Air Force Base, so I reviewed the engineer’s reports for him and wrote a brief critique of the bill which I’ve included here.
The clean water activist explained that Ken Wagner is Oklahoma’s Secretary of Energy & Environment. Wagner is a close associate of Scott Pruitt and followed Pruitt from Tulsa to Washington when he took the reigns of the EPA. Pruitt and Wagner were Trump’s darlings and proceeded to methodically deregulated a host of Obama-era environmental rules before Pruitt was ousted for ethical lapses. When Pruitt departed, Wagner came home to run the state’s energy and environment department.
The groundwater outside of Hangar 230 on Tinker Air Force base was found to contain 464,000 parts per trillion pf PFOS and PFOA when the Air Force had it tested in 2017.
Bad News for Westminster (MD) and the Surrounding Region
The PFAS contamination recently reported in your drinking water is likely to be much worse than you’ve been led to believe.
By Pat Elder
February 2, 2021
Where’s the PFAS coming from in Westminster and Hampstead, Maryland? The MDE should test the groundwater and the surface water in these locations to start finding out:
A story in the Carroll County Times recently reported that PFOS and PFOA levels were detected at 154.96 parts per trillion (ppt) in one of Westminster’s 10 drinking water wells. In nearby Hampstead, the two substances totaled 249.3 ppt in one of 15 wells serving the town. These results are likely to be the tip of the contaminated iceberg. The EPA has issued an “advisory” to states suggesting they limit water containing more than 70 ppt for two types of PFAS - PFOS and PFOA. See https://patelder.weebly.com/westminster-md--pfas.html
